The Summer Work Outreach Project has been hoping to expand into Virginia for a few years, and this summer will be the beginning of that move. Virginia students will join the Mt Iron site this summer, then a Virginia site will be established in 2012. We plan for the church to provide facility and logistical support throughout the project.
You can support SWOP by attending one of the fundraiser dinners coming up in April and early May, especially the ham dinner at the Mt Iron Community Center on April 7. Dinner is served from 4:00-7:00p.m. and costs $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for children under 10. The Buhl-Kinney site will hold a Burger Basket dinner on April 14 at the Buhl-Kinney Senior Center. The Chisholm beef stroganoff dinner will be May 5.
We would also love for one or two people to join Val Strukel in representing Hope on the SWOP board. Businesses and organizations are invited to become partners in the project. Other volunteer opportunities will come up as we move toward the summer.
SWOP is a non-profit organization. It is a summer work project for youth ages 11 – 14. The SWOP program is a community partnership with youth helping youth to learn life skills, values, respect for self and others, develop positive adult relationships, develop work ethic and money management and provide responsible community involvement. At this time, SWOP works in the communities of Buhl / Kinney, Mt. Iron, and Chisholm.
